Clare is joint chief instructor at Kenshinkan Martial Arts, holding a 5th Degree Black belt in Goshin Ryu JuJitsu, a 3rd Degree Black belt in Karate and a brown belt in Judo.
Clare is one of the countries leading female martial artists and has run many advance seminars on women's martial arts which highlight thought and preparation as the main tactic for a women's survival in combat situations, using techniques that work for women in situations where the assailant is physically stronger.
Clare also has an assistant instructor’s certificate in Krav Maga and has trained and worked with some of the countries leading martial arts instructors.
As well as her formidable Martial Arts qualifications Clare also holds numerous academic qualifications both in sport and in anatomy & massage.
Clare holds a First Class Honours Degree obtained from the Leeds Carnegie university, the countries leading sports university, obtaining in 2008 her BSc Sport (Hons).
As well as her formidable academic qualifications Clare has also worked for several ITEC Level 3 Diploma’s which she uses both in martial arts and with “A Personal Touch” .
ITEC Level 3 Diploma in Anatomy & Physiology, Professional Conduct, Business Awareness and importantly an Level 3 Diploma in Sports Massage.
These qualifications were all obtained at the Harrogate College where Clare is now studying for her Post Graduate Certificate in Education, which will both allow Clare to teach at college level the subjects she has qualified in, as well of course meaning that she is formally qualified to teach, a rarity in Martial arts clubs and schools.
Clare has provided sports massage services at many running and walking events and has provided sports massage services to the Huddersfield Giants Rugby first team.
Clare obtained her 1st Dan in Shukokai Karate in 1997 having trained for over 5 years at the Otley Karate Centre. Clare taught as the joint chief instructor at the Wetherby Kenshinkan Martial Arts centre teaching both children and adults along with Mike started the Kenshinkan Otley Jujitsu centre which has grown steadily over the past 5 years
After enduring a few months listening to Mike talking incessantly about jujitsu goaded Clare into giving it a go, a go she never looked back from.
Clare was awarded her Shodan grade (1st DAN) when taking her Shodan-ho grading, due to the highly impressive performance on the day. Clare is a no-nonsense martial artist that has developed and refined techniques to make sure they work for women, avoiding the strength only techniques concentrating on the strikes, throws and impacts that work.
Clare is a driving force behind the Kenshinkan kidjitsu classes, developing a syllabus of safe, challenging and fun techniques that have over the years proved a resounding success.
The Kidjitsu classes are kept small to make sure that the teaching is of a high quality with all kids getting the attention they need to progress and achieve.
As well as developing both the Adult and Junior syllabus for the black belt academy Clare has continued to hone and develop her skills. As well as her academic career Clare continues to increase her martial arts knowledge and currently, showing a true martial arts humility, has strapped on a white belt to train in Gracie Jujitsu, to further develop her ground work skills.
