Ju-jitsu news letter October/December 2009
Hi Everyone!
Welcome to all the newcomers, all of us here at Kenshinkan hope you enjoy training with us. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask any senior grade (brown belt and above) or myself and Mike. Our ethos here is for everyone to enjoy themselves, we do as instructors and we hope you do as students.
Please Read!
The news letter is provided to make parents and students aware of important dates and information. We are constantly being asked questions that have already been answered in the news letter so can we ask that you read it and make yourselves aware of what it contains, thanks.
Ju-jitsu Seminar!
This year Goshin Ryu International is presenting a Ju-Jitsu seminar organised by Howard Armstrong from Knaresborough which students from any club can attend. At present the seminar is only open to adults and will be held on the 1st Nov at the Army Foundation College, Harrogate and will run from 10.30am-3.30pm. Full details will be made available very soon.
The seminar will focus heavily on Ju-Jitsu and your instructors for the day will be Howard (Knaresborough), Mike & Clare and Ian Woolston (Scarborough), plus Rob Cooke who will teach Krav Maga; an Israeli military self defence system. This will be a good opportunity to experience different aspects of Ju-Jitsu so book your place as soon as possible; it will be a good day.
Congratulations!
The Standard of
preparation by our students
at our recent grading was second to none. A big well done to Tom Armitage, Arthur & Nick Cain, and William & Samuel Marston. The grading was a prime example of how to be ready for your grading and it was all down to attitude and attendance, it would have out some adults to shame! If you fail to commit to just one of these areas then you can be sure you will not do as good as you could have. Remember; you only get out what you put in!!!!
Bring a Friend!
We are looking to recruit more adults so if you know someone who may be interested just bring them along with you and they can have a taster lesson for free.
Christmas!!!!
I know we don't want to be thinking of Christmas so soon but it will be here before we know it. If any adult students want to go for a Christmas meal we will need to get booked sooner rather than later so let me as soon as possible, cheers. The last training day before Christmas will be Sat 19th Dec and we will re-open on Sat 9th Jan. As usual we will be having a fun and games lesson on the last day so be sure to be there and as every year Santa and his little helper will be making an appearance:
Dress Up!!
If you want to have more fun at Christmas you can come dressed up as your favourite Christmas character on the 19th December. A prize will be given for the best one :o)
Reviewed Prices!
There is a new price list, please be sure to pick one up. One to take notice of is the grading fee which has gone up to £15 per grading with immediate effect. All other increases will not come into effect until April 2010.
Future Grading Dates!
These are the dates for future gradings. We will keep to these the best we can; a lot depends on the availability of the hall. However I must stress that if for any reason you cannot attend on a particular date you will have to wait until the next grading. Frustrating as it may be if you have to miss it but it is virtually impossible to find a date that everybody is available for at the same time, apologies. This is one reason why we have gradings on a regular basis.

Interesting Facts!
If you have any interesting facts or info about ju-jitsu or martial arts let us know and we can feature it in the next news letter. Here's fact No.4 brought in by Alistair Robinson; " Traditional Japanese combat Ju-Jitsu is a deadly art that was once the fighting system used by Samurai warriors. Well done Alistair and thanks for bringing this interesting fact in:.
Contact Details!
I know I keep rattling on about this but please make sure I have up to date mobile phone numbers, especially regards to children in case of an emergency, your children's safety is paramount to us at all times.
Still on the subject of safety, will you please inform the club in writing if you are willing to allow your child/ren to leave the club unattended after training. We appreciate that parking is a struggle sometimes and you might just be outside but safety conscious old worriers Mike and I just want them to be safe, thanks.
Licence Books!
Please make sure you fill out your licence books properly. If you are unsure of how to do it just ask and we will help you. Also make sure you keep it safe, if you lose it you will have to pay £10 for a replacement, which is the price we have to pay the association for them. Remember you need to present your licence before every grading so you cannot get away without having one.

Also we hope to introduce our own club clothing which will be available soon. If you are interested in purchasing just let me know:. Not sure of any prices or what is available but I'll keep you posted on that one.
That's about it for now; hope you like the new look. So until next time TTFN.
